Character Info
◎ Character's Name: Mitsuru Kirijo
◎ Character's Canon: Persona 3
◎ Character's Age: 18
◎ Canon Point: Post-The Journey, pre-The Answer
◎ Background/History: Mitsuru @ SMT Wiki
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? No. Her skills with technology are mostly comparable with other eighteen year-olds of her time, although she does have experience with some specialized technology in the pursuit of fighting shadows. However, she is not the designer nor the person who customizes it. She doesn't so much have a sixth sense, but her Persona is capable of scanning and reporting on enemies. See abilities for more info below...
◎ Personality: Upon first glance, Mitsuru comes off as a put-together woman. She stands tall with good posture and walks with confidence that does not seem grand nor out of place. She has an aura of sophistication that may be due to her high class upbringing, but also something that just seems to come natural to her as well. It's not surprising that she seems untouchable and inspires the students at her school. Her expectations of herself and of others are high, but she is not without understanding. She is constantly advocating for the academic achievements of the other me members of SEES and it is actually impossible to form a Social Link with her in game until the protagonist's academics have reached their maximum level. For her part, she has a knack for foreign languages and holds the highest test scores in her school. Though, it can be difficult for her to really see where others are coming from, she does make an effort to try. She is receptive to criticism, especially in regards to social matters. But there are some moral standards that she holds high no matter what and will not back down when those are challenged.
That is not to say that everything is fine china with her, however. As accustomed as she is to the high life, Mitsuru does feel confined by it at the same time. She is not one to flaunt her money for the sake of reputation, but instead feels it as something natural. Her clothing is all expensive and chosen by the family stylist--though she has expressed a desire to have a better handle on fashion, she admits that it's not her forte. There was a sense of disconnect with self-expression, which she tried to make up with by "rebelling" through her motorcycle in her youth, but as she's gotten older Mitsuru has become more comfortable with who she is. Popular culture and fast food are things that interest her, but at the same time, she is too afraid to delve into the strange world on her own. She's shown to being jealous of Yukari's ability to understand these things so easily, but also accepting that it's simply "not her", as if she expects certain roles to be filled by herself and others, even implicitly. Despite her charming way of speaking, it is still easy for her to feel like a fish out of water.
It is difficult to fluster Mitsuru, but not impossible. She can hold her composure well and often stands as an example of maturity towards her peers. To be honest, part of it comes from the fact that certain idioms and implications go over her heard. But as mention before, she is a tad socially awkward in certain situations. She has a tendency to over-analyze the simplest things just because she is not familiar with them. (Ramen, for example, she could go on forever). She once felt inferior to the girls around her, like Yukari, who seem to come by all this so naturally, but has since decided to learn from them and befriend them instead. She dresses conservatively, and prefers such, but occasionally shows interest in being more adventurous.
With Mitsuru, duties come first, above her personal comfort and individual preferences. This was what drove her to, originally, go along with the arranged marriage that was set for her in hopes that it would be best for the Kirijo Group, despite her dislike of the man and the fact she simply didn't want to marry him. However, her relationship with the protagonist helped her understand that her fiancé was not what was best for the Group and that she shouldn't have to sacrifice all of her own happiness and well-being for it. She has a knack for leadership and tends to take that position even when the official title is given to someone else. A good listener and a thoughtful advisor, though she tends to keep her personal problems to herself. They can eat away at her for months or even years, but Mitsuru sees it as her own battle and a burden she must carry on her own. This is also something that she has gotten better with over time; though her tendency is still to remain reclusive, she is able to open up more with her friends. Despite her insecurities, she is still able to move forward and do what she believes is necessary for the survival of her friends, her company, and herself.
Since the end of the Dark Hour and graduating Gekkoukan High School, Mitsuru has found her purpose in life and resolve to move forward. At her moment of reconciliation and bonding with Yukari, Mitsuru's late father has become her motivation to atone for the sins that her family has committed. She is still very goal-oriented but is less forceful in her methods and more understanding of how people are affected. Her social awareness has grown, though she still stands out quite a bit. Responsibility is not so much a burden anymore but something she takes to heart in a way to improve on what is, rather than constantly lament what was. Her friends have become a sort of family for her and help her move forward.
◎ Powers/Abilities: Though a skilled fencer and an excellent student, Mitsuru's special abilities beyond that of a normal human are her ability to summon a Persona. A Persona is the manifestation of someone's personality, used in battle and in the Dark Hour. In The Answer, it is revealed that Persona are essentially tamed Shadows. SEES uses an Evoker to summon a Persona, which is a gun-shaped device created by the Kirijo Group. The user must "shoot" themselves with it, imitating the act of suicide. This is to put the Persona-user under stress and fear and triggers self-preservation, which instigates the summoning of a Persona. Mitsuru's combative style is fairly versatile, as she relies on series of quick strikes with her rapier to attack her opponents. Her attacks are fairly forceful and she has decent range.
Mitsuru's current and Ultimate Persona is Artemisia. Though she is mainly a Persona designed for combat, she does have some support capabilities that allows Mitsuru to sense her allies and enemies --as well as discern their strengths and weaknesses if she's given a moment to perform said scan--as well as communicate with the former, though to a limited distance and accuracy. Artemisia is well-versed in Bufu (ice-based) attacks and consequently makes Mitsuru well-equipped to deal with them in turn. She is weak to Agi skills (fire). She has healing abilities as well as some status changes, the most notorious being Marin Karin, which casts charm on an enemy and makes them favor the party and attack its former colleagues. Here is a list of skills she comes with:
◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
▶ Rapier (one-handed sword)
▶ Evoker
▶ Her cellphone
CEREALIA-Specific
◎ Element: Water. While Mitsuru's grounded and steadfast nature might lead her towards Earth, Water is also the element of strength, change, devotion, and purification. A large motivation for Mitsuru is to atone for the sins her family has committed, wanting to give back to those who have been hurt as well as clear up her family name. It symbolizes death as well as rebirth. It is life-giving, but can also be destructive, as Mitsuru also symbolizes the Empress Arcana--a caring, mothering figure--as well as one who takes control and isn't afraid to fight and take down those in her path. Her element in game is also Ice, which is frozen water.
◎ Sense: Sight. Along with the ability (although limited) of her Persona to anticipate the location of and discern and see the strengths and weaknesses of her (and her team's) opponents, Mitsuru is also the type o f person to be a quiet observer.
◎ Seven Character Traits: ( Intelligent, Confident, Mature ) | ( Naive (Socially), Controlling, Cold ) + Reserved
Samples
◎ First-Person Sample: Post @ Enrtanceway
◎ Third-Person Sample: One wouldn't need special abilities to tell that something is off. Mitsuru is well-acquainted with the sensation of being out of sorts, having grown up during the Dark Hour and used to the effects of long-term Persona use. However, this doesn't resemble any of them. Though she had participated willingly to most of the experiments in order to become stronger to protect her father, she was used to being poked and prodded in her early childhood as well. That was in a lab, however, and the poking and prodding were usually done with sterile instruments hooked up to machines that toed the line between magic and science. This...
...this is a chicken.
A chicken who is staring right down at her as if she had done something to offend it, perhaps roll over onto its favorite bag of seed?
"...!"
Mitsuru immediately recoils from the foul fowl, jumping to her feet. The chicken, in turn, squawks in surprise and flaps its wings indignantly. Sucking in a sharp breath, she shoos the bird away. There are a lot of things that Mitsuru could make sense of to suddenly waking up to, but barn yard animals? Yet as she straightens and dusts herself off, she takes in her surroundings. To say that she's surprised would be an understatement.
The village itself is almost a little too bright, a little too quaint and picturesque. In some ways, it's the quintessential rural village that offers the provincial comforts of a simple life. But if such thoughts entered her mind, Mitsuru pays them no heed. She is instantly alert, red eyes narrowing as she pulls herself together and tugs the hem of her skirt properly down her thighs. Nothing around her rings any bells, though her eyes scan the area. If it weren't for the urge of panic in her chest, the scene itself would seem rather peaceful, even for a city girl like her.
But it isn't.
She realizes that her Evoker is strapped to her waist as it should be--wait, no, that's right. The last thing she remembers is preparing for bed. They had graduated, they...they had seen a very dear friend, someone who had changed their lives as well as the course of the world--
No, she didn't want to think about that finality. It is still too raw, to near and close to her heart. Even the joyful atmosphere of the sudden throng of people won't change that.
But it's one such unimpressive and overly friendly individual who bumps into her as if they hadn't noticed her.
"Excuse-moi--" She turns immediately and cuts herself off as a very mechanical and very unnerving smile meets her.
"Have you been to the caves?"
Mitsuru frowns, casting her gaze to the side for a moment. Caves? Clearly not anywhere in the village itself. But perhaps this overly friendly person can provide her with vital information.
"No. Where are these caves? And moreover, where is here?" Is she dreaming? She's well-aware of how fantastical dreams can be and how real they can appear, but this is not at all the sort of world Mitsuru would normally entertain.
"Just outside the village!" He says, his face not changing expression.
"...Yes. But where is this village located?"
"It's dangerous to go alone..." And he opens his coat. Her reaction is to pull back immediately, reaching to her side for her Evoker. Yet despite the fact that she's clearly grabbing what appears to be a gun, the man doesn't stop. Instead, he reveals a number of identical bags hanging from the fabric of his coat lining on invisible threads and offers her one such bag. "Take this!"
"..."
"Take this!"
"......."
"Take this!"
"...I'm fine, thank you."
"...It's dangerous to go alone...take this!"
Well, this is clearly not going to stop any time soon.
"--Very well, I'll accept your pouch if you tell me where this village is located." Mitsuru crosses her arms.
"...It's dangerous to go alone...take this!"
She never thought she would imagine a chicken to be more reasonable.
